An Integrated Safety, Health and Environmental Management Capability Maturity Model for Construction Organisations: A Case Study in Ghana

Safety, health and environmental (SHE) management is becoming a priority as construction companies (i.e., contractors) strive to reduce accidents negative impacts, conform regulatory requirements, sustain their competitiveness. Consequently, firms are expected adopt implement innovative SHE systems mitigate risks effectively efficiently. For do this, they need have the adequate capability in respect of integrated management. However, there limited empirical insight regarding capabilities companies. Furthermore, mechanisms for ascertaining guide such organisations towards excellence operations. Drawing on maturity model integration (CMMI) concept, this study, by applying expert reviews Delphi technique design methodology grids), developed an Health Environmental Management Maturity Model (iSHEM-CMM). The offers assessment five-level scale within five thematic categories 20 attributes. Based industrial validation professionals, it concluded that useful framework or tool industry stakeholders, particularly firms, evaluate status current capabilities, identify strengths improvement areas, accordingly prioritise strategies/actions improving clients who appoint could use part prequalification arrangements selecting with capability.
